In addition to its remarkable optical zoom power of 30x*, this camera features a large number of manual functions to boost your creativity, such as a LVF (Live View Finder), a Control Ring, RAW compatibility, and Focus Peaking, all in an ultra-compact body. 30x Optical Zoom in Ultra Compact Body
Crystalizing its optical technologies, Panasonic succeeded in integrating a 24mm ultra wide-angle 30x zoom lens (35mm equivalent: 24-720mm) in a slim, flat body. It lets you capture a variety of scenes from dynamic landscapes, to people or animals far away.
Built-in Live View Finder
This camera comes equipped with a 0.2-inch LVF (Live View Finder) with 200K-dot equiv. resolution and 100% field of view. It assures stable framing and high visibility of live view images even at high magnification and under strong sunlight. As an option, it can be set to 60 fps to smoothly display fast-moving subjects.
HYBRID O.I.S.+ and Level Shot Function
The HYBRID O.I.S.+ for video recording with 5-axis correction detects and effectively compensates for the camera's 5 types of movement – horizontal, vertical, axis of rotation, vertical rotation and horizontal rotation.
The Level Shot Function detects the horizontal line of the recording image and keeps it even if the camera is tilted. It lets you take stable video even in blind recording situations, such as high angle shots.
Easy Wi-Fi Connection with NFC / QR Code
This camera integrates Wi-Fi® connectivity with NFC technology to enjoy flexible shooting style and instant image sharing with easy operation. You can connect the camera with a smartphone / tablet simply by placing them near each other and following the simple guidance. Setting-up is extremely easy and finishes within a few seconds. Even if a smartphone / tablet is incompatible with NFC, it can be easily connected to the camera just by scanning the QR code displayed on the camera monitor.
To use this feature, it is recommended that you update your “Panasonic Image App” to the latest version.
Photo Shooting Performance
18.1-megapixel High Sensitivity MOS Sensor
The 18.1-megapixel High Sensitivity MOS sensor is integrated in the camera to realise both high quality image recording and high speed signal processing.
The superior NR (Noise Reduction) system in the Venus Engine enables deliberate noise reduction process without missing low-frequency noise in its large detection area. It results in the high sensitivity image recording even at ISO6400 (extended).
High Speed Response
High speed digital signal output technology is integrated to realise high speed consecutive shooting and full-HD video recording. It lets you shoot 10 fps in 18.1-megapixel full resolution with mechanical shutter and 5 fps with continuous AF. The actuator for AF lens motor uses a 240 fps high speed AF Drive, resulting in the higher speed AF by approx. 20% at wide and 30% at tele end*. It also contributes to the quick start-up and Light Speed AF to catch the most fleeting shooting opportunities.

Unique Filter Effects Photos and Videos
With a variety of filter effects, Creative Control lets you add artistic and original expression to photos and videos.

RAW Format Recording
This camera is capable of recording images in RAW. The software SILKYPIX Developer Studio 4.1 SE allows dramatically higher quality image development from RAW to JPEG. Even the images shot at high ISO setting can be produced sharply with minimum noise.
The software to process RAW file on PC is not bundled with DMC-ZS40(TZ60).
To do this, SILKYPIX Developer Studio is available for download at Ichikawa Soft Laboratory's website using PC connected to the Internet.

Control Functions
Control Ring
Manual control is easy to try thanks to the Control Ring, which enables direct, intuitive control over frequently used settings: zooming, aperture, shutter speed, and filter of Creative Control. Manual focusing is also available with smooth Control Ring operation.
Manual Focus / Focus Peaking
For more precise control over focusing, this camera incorporates Focus Peaking function that shows the peak of focus in MF mode. You can see the peaking of focus while monitoring the subject in live view. You can also take advantage of this function when controlling the camera with your smartphone or tablet via Wi-Fi® in both photo / video recording.
Composition Guide
It is easy to shoot a photo in good composition by just choosing the most suitable pattern of composition – Rule of Thirds Offset, Diagonal Lines, Tunnel, Radiation1, Radiation2 or S-shape – and framing the subjects along the guided lines. The well-composed image has a stunning perspective and it will look dramatically refined. This function can be used when shooting not only with the monitor but also with LVF (Live View Finder).
Level Gauge
The Level Gauge lets the camera detect the horizontal / vertical angle of view which is convenient to make level in composition.

1920x 1080p Full-HD Video Recording in AVCHD and MP4 Format
This camera can record high-resolution full-HD 1,920 x 1,080 50p videos in AVCHD Progressive (MPEG-4 / H.264) format. Featuring the progressive full-HD video recording capability, subjects with fast motion or fine details are reproduced even more clearly.
30x Optical Zoom in Video Recording
The powerful 30x optical zoom with 2-step Zoom function is available in video recording. The advanced image stabiliser HYBRID O.I.S.+ is integrated to suppress hand-shake vibration effectively even when shooting using high zoom. The Level Shot Function detects the horizontal line of the recording image and keeps it, even if the camera is tilted. It lets you take stable video even in blind recording scenarios like high angle shooting.
High Speed Video 100 fps in HD
You can record high-speed videos at 100 fps in HD quality. You can capture scenes that can't be seen with the naked eye, and play them back in dramatic slow motion.
Stereo Microphone
Incorporating a stereo zoom microphone, the videos also come with the high-quality stereo sound of Dolby® Digital, to offer highly realistic sound to the video. HDR (High Dynamic Range)
With the HDR (High Dynamic Range) mode, several photos are consecutively shot at different exposure levels to make a single composite picture without whiteout (over-exposure) or blackout (under-exposure) even in difficult lighting conditions.
Remote Shooting / Remote View
With “Panasonic Image App", remote shooting is available which means you gain extra control. Placing a camera at a shooting position, you can monitor it from a distance. What the camera is seeing is displayed on the smartphone / tablet and zooming, setting focus, shutter release and several recording settings such as exposure compensation are controllable with a smartphone / tablet.
Wi-Fi® Features - On the Go
Easy Share
You can instantly upload and share your images to social networking sites using the "Panasonic Image App" on a smartphone / tablet. Also, a new Photo Collage function has been added to the app to allow several images to be combined into a single image and shared.
Geotagging
You can tag the location information to the image by utilising the GPS log of a smartphone / tablet and share it to social networking sites.

Wireless Image Transfer
Instant Transfer
The Instant Transfer function allows you to transfer photo data to designated electronic devices automatically whenever the shutter is released. In playback mode, you can also touch the image displayed on the camera to transfer it directly to the smartphone / tablet right on the spot.
Auto Transfer
Images are transferred on your camera to a computer or other compliant devices while charging the battery via the wireless access point at home.

720p HD Video Recording
The DMC-SZ8 records dynamic HD video in 1280 x 720p. Recording motion image can be started with a press of an independent motion picture button on the top of the camera, which is extremely convenient for users to switch between photo and video shooting instantly.
iA (Intelligent Auto) Mode
Panasonic incorporated the Intelligent Auto mode in pursuit of the ultimate ease of operation and the reduction of miss-shots. The mode is a comprehensive integration of Optical Image Stabilizer, Face Detection, Intelligent Scene Selector and Intelligent Exposure – the camera does all the work, leaving you free to compose shots, aim and shoot the subject.
