Helps ensure that the image you want is the image you get. Once auto focus occurs, release time lag is the delay between fully pressing the shutter release and when the camera actually starts taking the picture. With Translucent Mirror Technology
In Sony's SLT cameras, the Translucent mirror stays in place, allowing light to reach both the image sensor and phase-detection AF sensor simultaneously. Without the need for the mirror to flip back into position before the next shot, the SLT-A65 is able to achieve ultra-fast response of up to 10 fps with full-time, high-speed AF detection. Moving subjects are always kept in focus.

In regular DSLR cameras, the mirror flips upward and downward for image capture, causing blackout time with every shot you take.
